Lesson 1: Recognizing Symptoms of Stress, Anxiety, and Depression

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Recognizing the signs of stress, anxiety, and depression can help you seek support and take action before things get worse.

Symptoms of Stress:

  • Constant worry or feeling overwhelmed

  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

  • Muscle tension, headaches, or sleep problems

  • Irritability or mood swings

Symptoms of Anxiety:

  • Persistent fear or nervousness, often without a clear cause

  • Rapid heartbeat or shortness of breath

  • Sweating or trembling

  • Difficulty relaxing or staying calm

Symptoms of Depression:

  • Persistent sadness or feeling “down”

  • Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed

  • Fatigue or lack of energy

  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions

  • Thoughts of death or self-harm (seek immediate help if this is the case)

When to Seek Help:

If you experience symptoms of stress, anxiety, or depression for more than two weeks, or if these symptoms interfere with daily life, it's important to talk to a mental health professional. Early intervention can help prevent the conditions from worsening.

Reflection:

Reflect on how you've been feeling lately. Have you noticed any signs of stress, anxiety, or depression in yourself or others? Write about how you handle stress and whether there are ways you could improve your mental health management.
